Prior to settlement date, agents are to have their clients add or remove their name from the billing of all utilities, effective on Settlement morning.
List Side:
Ask your seller to notify each utility company that they are selling and would like to “transfer service” to the new buyer on settlement date. (Not disconnect.) That would cost the buyer a $100 reconnection fee.)
Have them send the names and numbers to you so you can forward to the buyer agent.
Buy Side:
Ask your client to call each utility company to have service transferred into their name on the date of settlement. Possibly the listing agent can provide you with the companies. If not, look them up. Two frequent ones are below:
Fairfax County Water online: https://www. fairfaxwater.org/start-service
Dominion Energy online: https://www. dominionenergy.com/virginia/ start-stop-service
Trash service might be condo handled or:
Republic or American. See who the seller was using.
