The Post Office Program: EDDM

A very large mass mailing will use the EDDM program, found on the USPS website. It has an extensive description of the services provided.

I think it is great, but it has to fit your needs, i.e. mass coverage of an area, as you actually buy mailer routes, not individual addresses. Therefore, so you cannot target a small neighborhood, or cluster of homes. Additionally, the EDDM format requires very precise mailer dimensions, which costs of printing are usually offset by volume printed. Our agent Younes found a pretty good printer in Woodbridge, but the minimum volume is 2500 pieces for the EDDM service.

So again, it has its pros and cons. If you are looking to carpet bomb an area without too much worry about who it goes to, EDDM is the way. However, if you want to announce to do a “Just Sold” card to a neighborhood you are farming, then you can go to www.nat22.com for two service companies. A First class mailer is always nice and effective if written to the individual, but expensive.
